Tourist guide to Mexico

destination guide

Sizzling with sunshine and burning with Spanish party passion, holidays in Mexico are hot stuff with fabulous food, great weather a buzzing nightlife and amazing beaches. There are chic, sleek all inclusive beach resorts for starters. With desert sands, Mayan ruins, the jungle and two coastlines, there’s a whole lot of beach to be explored.

Located in the Pacific Coast of Mexico, Acapulco with its perfect year-round tropical climate makes it the perfect place for all kinds of day and night time activities. The world famous and legendary Pearl of the Pacific is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Mexico. In spite of living to the rhythm of modern life and having large hotels and first class services,

Acapulco still maintains its beauty and original attractions. Acapulco is very easy to get to. America West files direct from Phoenix and Sacramento. Continental Airlines flies non-stop from Houston. Mexicana has flights to Acapulco from Los Angeles, San Jose, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Chicago and Miami, all connect through Mexico City. American Airlines flies non-stop from Dallas/Fort Worth with connections from almost anywhere. Aeromexico connects all flights through Mexico City. Delta Airlines flies into Mexico City and then connects via Aeromexico. Flights from Europe and UK are also easy to find.

Cancun is a beach lover’s paradise. Soft, white sandy shores and warm, azure seas await you in this gorgeous slice of Mexico. Cancun is a tropical climate filled with an array of bars, restaurants, great hotels and a hive of activity. You will never get bored here World-renowned fishing, diving and snorkeling, archeological sites dating back thousands of years, a balmy tropical climate and water sports galore, this is Cancun! A resort where you could keep busy 24 hours a day just participating in the many activities and tours available, and yet it remains a tranquil retreat where you could relax to your hearts content, this is Cancun!

In Cancun you can literally choose a pace and lifestyle to suit any frame of mind, from ultra chic to funky laidback beach. Cancun is very easy to get to, with over 80 flights arriving daily. Mexicana has flights to Cancun from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver and Chicago. American Airlines flies non-stop from Dallas/Fort Worth. Aeromexico flies from Los Angeles. Delta Airlines flies non-stop from Los Angeles. Continental Airlines flies non-stop from Houston. Flights from Europe and UK are also easy to find.

Cozumel is Mexico’s largest island, nestled just 12 miles off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. Cozumel measures 28 miles long and 10 miles wide, and is world renown for it’s dazzling white sandy beaches and the remarkable clarity of the multi-hued azure Caribbean ocean in which it rests. The climate is subtropical and the people native to Cozumel are of Mayan descent.

Cozumel Island, Mexico has an international airport on the island so many airlines fly directly to the island. Unfortunately, during low seasons, not all departure cities offer direct flights to the island. These flights usually fly directly to Cancun and then a very short connecting flight is taken to Cozumel Island. Flights from Europe and UK are also easily available.

Based around two swanky towns on Mexico’s Baja peninsula – Cabo San Lucas and San Jose Del Cabo – Los Cabos holidays hardly let you draw breath. First there’s the beaches: over 40 ribbons of platinum-white sand edging the coastline. Then there’s the sea – sparkling blue water.

Cabo San Lucas was once a tranquil fishing village and, in times long ago, a hangout for pirates. Although no longer the fishing village of old, and not many of the old pirates are seen around town any more, the magic of Cabo remains. Cabo has come of age. Located at the southernmost tip of the magnificent Baja peninsula, Cabo is the remote playground reserved solely for private yacht owners. They flocked here to be near “Marlin Alley”, as the waters around Cabo have often been described.

The name is well deserved, as Cabo is the undisputed billfish capital of the world. It is also home to the village of San Jose del Cabo. Los Cabos is easier than ever to get to, with many flights arriving daily. Mexicana, Aero Mexico and Aero California serve Los Angeles. America West serves the area from Phoenix, AZ., Aero California serves Los Angeles, Continental flies from Houston, American Airlines from Dallas/Fort Worth and Mexicana also serves the Denver area. Alaska Airlines serves the area from Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle and San Diego, and of course Alaska. Two charter airlines, Canada 2000 and Suntrips also serve the area on a regular basis. And Europe and the UK are also well served.

You’ll be mesmerised by the glittering sands on holidays to Playa del Carmen. Holidays in ‘Playa’ – as it is known by the locals – are all about the beach. Sun-bleached sands, shimmering turquoise waters and tall swaying palms -Playa del Carmen holidays are brimming with sunshine sizzle. The once sleepy village of Playa del Carmen doubled twice in population in the last few years, mainly due to Europeans who discovered the alabaster-white beaches, gentle surf, coral reefs and slow lifestyle were the equal of the more expensive island of Cozumel just across the straits.

Playa del Carmen is blessed with miles of unspoiled white sandy beaches and crystal-clear Caribbean waters that’s proving harder and harder to find. It’s a place for those in search of the real Caribbean. The UK and Europe are also well served.

Right next door to Playa del Carmen is Playacar, a beautiful purpose-built hotel zone where you will find a eighteen hole golf course and jungle-esque surroundings.

Located only four miles apart, Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo combine to deliver the best of both worlds. Pamper yourself at any of Ixtapa`s luxurious world-class resorts. Ixtapa – Zihuatanejo, on the “Mexican Riviera” is located in the northwestern part of the state of Guerrero, 150 miles up the coast from Acapulco. Unlike any other Mexican beach resort destination, it comprises two entirely different places with distinct lifestyles. Ixtapa offers 14 unspoiled beaches, golf courses, and fine quality shops.

Tennis courts and a yacht marina add to the resort amenities. Zihuatanejo, an old fishing village, has cobblestone streets with restaurants, shopping, and art galleries. The area’s three beaches invite all water sports. The airport is 21 kms. from Ixtapa and 14 kms. from Zihuatanejo. It is possible to find direct flights from Canada and US especially during the tourist season (December – April). Continental Airlines, Mexicana de Aviacion, Aeromexico, Alaska Airlines, America West Airlines are the principal couriers and there are numerous charter specials. There are many flights with connections at the airport in Mexico City.

Manzanillo offers a great variety of beaches where you can rest, calmly take a sun bath or enjoy all the water sports. The natural beauty of this port has caused important tourist companies to begin construction of new resorts. Manzanillo is located in Colima State on the Mexican Pacific coast 98 Km from the Colima City, the state’s capital. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the East with Coquimatlán and Armería, on the West, East and Northeast with the State of Jalisco to the North with Minatitlán. From Puerto Vallarta, it’s 165 miles (4 hours) on the scenic coastal road, and from Guadalajara airport, it’s only about a 3-hour drive on a well-maintained toll road.

Puerto Vallarta almost defies description as a resort town. Lying on Mexico’s Pacific shore beneath jungle-clad hills, the Puerto Vallarta region is so beautiful, it looks like a Hollywood film set. Centred around its original village, Old Vallarta – a web of orange-roofed houses linked by quaint backstreets – it now spreads both ways along a stunning shoreline.
Offering an extremely wide variety of attractions and entertainment options, a modern marina and cruise ship port attract visitors on ships and yachts from all over the world. The city’s clean, friendly atmosphere, unique Old Mexico ambiance and incredibly diverse shopping possibilities attract International and Mexican tourists in droves. It’s very easy to get to Puerto Vallarta, in high season there are more than 450 flights arriving weekly.
Mexicana has flights to Puerto Vallarta from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver and Chicago. American Airlines flies non-stop from Dallas/Fort Worth. Aeromexico flies from Los Angeles. Delta Airlines flies non-stop from Los Angeles. Continental Airlines flies non-stop from Houston. Alaska Airlines flies from Los Angeles and San Francisco. And Europe and the UK also have flights.

Mazatlán is situated on the Pacific Coast of Mexico, almost directly across from the tip of the Baja peninsula. Mazatlán has its own airport, as well as ferry service to La Paz. See the getting here section for more information regarding how to reach Mazatlán. Set at the foot of the Sierra Madre Mountains on a peninsula that extends into the Pacific Ocean, Mazatlán is one of the Mexican Riviera’s premier resort areas.

Riviera Nayarit is nestled in a tropical setting on Mexico’s Pacific Coast. It has lush, green hills and a picturesque bay, Bahía de Banderas (Bay of Flags). Hotels line the bay’s curving beach. Riviera Nayarit and the marina area are also home to resorts.

The Riviera Maya stretches along the eastern coast for 30 km – a long flat expanse which encompasses lush tropical vegetation and pure white sands. Fantastic sandy beaches and turquoise waters run the length of the region’s shores and you’ll find water activities from windsurfing to deep sea fishing on offer throughout the Riviera.

Famous for its Mayan ruins and with the sizzling sun beating down, Tulum is about having a hot, hot holiday. You won’t find millions of mega resorts here. but there’s the luxury of scenery that’s gorgeous and virtually untouched by tourism. You can even scuba dive the world’s second largest coral reef if the mood takes you. Tulum Beach is one of the prettiest deserted beaches you’ll ever stumble across – you’ll find it hard to leave this secluded spot.
