The Costa Dorada is known as the Golden Coast because of the colour of its sand. The golden tingle of the fine sand of its beaches is due to them facing southeast as well as the intensity of the suns rays.
   The Costa Dorada stretches from Barcelona to south of Tarragona in the Catalonia region. Twenty towns make up the Costa Dorada and beaches there are huge.

   Costa Dorada offers an all year round warm climate with the long sandy beaches, which shelve gently into the shimmering Mediterranean, offering safe swimming even for small children and plenty of water sports.

     Cambrils is the gastronomic capital of this area. The town's busy port with its recently renovated quays and moorings is home to a flotilla of luxury yachts amid the town's fleet of hardworking trawlers. From here, a path follows the Garbi river inland.

     Salou is one of the livliest resorts in Spain and is perfect for families and couples. Children love the beach, funfair, amusements and go-kart track, there are endless opportunities for watersports and plenty of excellent restaurants, bars and nightclubs.

     Sitges has beautifully ornate and colourful buildings which make up the urban centre, the modernist aesthetics of the early twentieth century make it one of the most interesting and unique places to visit in the region. Littered with coves and mini beaches the coastline is spectacular and varied.

     Forming part of an almost continuous ribbon of holiday developments from Salou to Cambrils, La Pineda isn't what you'd call action-packed. Of the three resorts along this stretch of the Costa Dorada, La Pineda is probably suited most for couples or families with young children.
